Women & Girls in Georgia Conference Call for Proposals To be held in Fall 2024Over the last 16 years the Women and Girls in Georgia conference has brought together hundreds of scholars, students, activists, and community members from across the state and region to create and fortify networks and build feminist community. Our model is shifting for 2024! The upcoming conference will be centered around a select group of grant-funded projects. We anticipate awarding up to ten grants of up to $1,000. Proposals should focus on research related to the 2024 conference theme: Southern Futures. “Southern” here refers to the U.S. South as well as the Global South. “Future” speaks to the enduring need to envision new political, social, and cultural formations that might redress (or alternatively, exacerbate) current inequities. We are interested in proposals exploring social movements, social institutions, and grassroots resistance across a range of topics relevant to the future of women and girls, including but not limited to environment, reproduction, coalition building, justice movements of all kinds, and feminist strategies to address the pressing challenges of our times. We welcome traditional as well as non-traditional forms of research, including reports from the field, performances, and exhibits. We encourage submissions that engage the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and other dimensions of identity, and that acknowledge the diversity of women and girls in Georgia (including immigration issues, neurodiversity, disabilities, LGBTQIA, etc.). Possible topics include: ~ Sovereignty ~ Coalition Politics ~ Reproductive Justice ~ Youth Activism ~ Queer/Trans/Nonbinary Futures ~ Abolition ~ Harm Reduction ~ Environmental Justice ~ Food Security ~ Economic Justice ~ War, Displacement, & Genocide ~ Solidarity & Allyship ~ Challenges of Community Building ~ Immigrants and Refugees ~ Transformative Justice ~ Ending Violence ~ Solidarity & Allyship ~ Local Access to Science & Knowledge ~ Education ~ Grassroots Movements ~ Intersectional Feminist Praxis ~ Radical Hope ~ Building Alternative Futures ~ All awardees will be expected to attend and present at the Fall 2024 conference. The conference will be open to the public, highlighting the path-breaking feminist research carried out by awardees. The conference will provide opportunities for collaborative and supportive conversation, networking, building bridges, and linking theory and analysis to practice.
