March 13, 2024 - Athens and UGA communities came out in full force for a visit by Dr. Kate Manne to celebrate the publication of her third book, Unshrinking: How to Face Fatphobia. On Tuesday night, Dr. Manne participated in a book talk and book signing at local independent bookstore Avid Bookshop, followed the next day by a lecture on "The Authority of Hunger," drawn from her recent research. Both events were well-attended and sparked lively conversations among audience members. "We are so lucky to have an expert like Dr. Manne come to Athens to share her important work on fatphobia," said Elise Robinson, Program Coordinator for the Institute for Women's Studies, who cosponsored the visit with UGA's Department of Philosophy and the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. "This research is relevant to everyone in our community, and we are thrilled to promote Dr. Manne's work both on and off campus in events open to all Athenians."

If you missed out on Dr. Manne's visit, you can purchase her books at Avid and find more information about her and her work on her website
