Academic Coach at University of Georgia

How were you affiliated with IWS?
Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies.

Tell us about your current work (paid or unpaid!)
I teach UNIV classes and serve as an academic coach at UGA.

How has your Women's Studies experience shaped your life and work post-graduation?
My grad certificate made me an overall more effective critical thinker but also provided me with the ability to explain the negative impact some current events have or could have on women's lives.

What are your favorite memories from your time in Women's Studies at UGA? Courses, professors, events?
I loved how my professors--Dr. Lootens, Dr. McCaskill, Dr. Richards, and Dr. Del Rey--created communities that invited students to experience belonging.

Any advice for current Women's Studies students (graduate or undergraduate)?
You may go out into the world and find that people don't understand or respect your degree or certificate in women's studies. Don't let them make you doubt your education. Your degree provided you with skills, and you will be successful because you have felt passionate as you debated the work your foremothers did to ensure that you have opportunities today. You now must use your education to ensure that your daughters and granddaughters also have access to opportunities.
