Andrea Carson Coley Lectures

"A Place of Our Own: How - and Where -  to Build a Community"

For our 30th Coley Lecture, we welcome noted journalist June Thomas. Thomas worked at Slate magazine for over twenty years, most recently as Senior Managing Producer of the Slate Podcast Network. She is currently the co-host of Slate’s Working podcast, having previously co-hosted The Waves, Slate’s podcast about gender and feminism, and founded Outward, Slate’s LGBTQ podcast. In June, Seal Press will release Thomas’s book A Place of Our Own: Six Spaces That Shaped Queer Women’s Culture, a deeply researched and highly readable cultural history of queer women’s lives in the second half of the twentieth century, told through six iconic spaces.

Cosponsored by The Willson Center for Arts and Humanities, Entertainment and Media Studies, and the Grady School of Journalism.
