Dr. Patricia Richards has been appointed the next Director of the Institute for Women's Studies, effective August 1, 2022. Per Dean Dorsey's memo: 

I know that she has the support of the Institute and that she will be an effective advocate for Women’s Studies on campus. All of us in the Dean’s Office look forward to working with her.

Congratulations to Women's Studies major, Jaaie Varshney, for being selected by the University of Georgia Morehead Honors College as a 2022 recipient of the Outstanding Honors Student in the Social Sciences award.

This award recognizes Jaaie's outstanding academic record, as well as the dedication, skill, and commitment to excellence she has exemplified throughout her participation in experiential opportunities, student and community organizations, and collaborative learning environments. Kudos to Jaaie!

Congratulations to Elise Robinson, Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Institute for Women's Studies and Ph.D. candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies, for receiving the 2022 Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award. Congratulations to Gina Abelkop, Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Institute for Women's Studies and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English, for being selected by the Center for Teaching and Learning as recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Teaching Award. Kudos Gina!

IWS Director, Dr. Juanita Johnson-Bailey, received the 2022 Zenobia L. Hikes Woman of Color in the Academy award from Virginia Tech University. Dr. Johnson-Bailey, the 2018 University Professor, also holds a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship, and is a professor of adult education in the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s Department of Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy.
