Job Posting: Full-Time Assistant Professor of History and Women’s Studies –Tenure Track

The University of Georgia (UGA) Department of History and Institute for Women’s Studies invite applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor of African American women’s history. We seek a specialist in African American women’s history, with a preference for candidates whose research focuses primarily on any period prior to 1945. Candidates with specific research and teaching interests in the history of science, health, reproduction, sexuality, environment, labor, or slavery are especially encouraged to apply.

Spotlight on Vera Bulla's WMST 2010: Introduction to Women’s Studies

Today we are spotlighting part of our curriculum, WMST 2010: Introduction to Women’s Studies, which is taught by our Graduate Teaching Assistants and offered every semester. As you may have gleaned from the title, this course provides students with an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Women’s Studies. Students who enroll in this class explore women’s lives and experiences as they are shaped and influenced by social, political, economic, cultural and other important institutions.

Feminist Perspectives in Elementary Education

Readings in feminist theories, research, and pedagogies focused on the experiences of children, families, and teachers in the context of elementary education. Students will engage feminist theories in their analyses of language, curricula, classroom practices, policies, media, and/or subjectivities in educational settings.

Colorism and Hairism in Communities of Color
Credit Hours:
3 hours

We will use empirical data to analyze how inter- and intra-racial discrimination based on skin color and hairstyles are forms of discrimination apparent in virtually every social institution, such as marriage rates, media, imprisonment, holding political office, educational attainment, wages, and more.
