Feminist Research Across the Disciplines

Call for papers

The Institute for Women’s Studies is pleased to announce a call for papers for the 2016 Women’s Studies Student Research Symposium, “Feminist Research Across the Disciplines.” The Institute for Women’s Studies’ Annual Student Research Symposium is designed to foster research in women’s studies. We invite papers and presentations on the following themes: student feminist autobiographical experiences • transnational and multicultural feminisms • representations of gender in popular culture, media, literature, the arts, or history • intersections of gender with identity categories, race, class, sexuality, age, ability • women and the state (welfare, public policy, activism, politics, the law) • environment, science and technology • feminist studies—as epistemology and pedagogy • bodies, health, reproductive justice and politics • religion and spirituality • creative expressions.

We encourage research from all disciplines. Both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts. All interested students please submit individual abstracts or complete panel abstracts electronically to wmstsymposium2016@gmail.com

Each submission must include:

1) An email sent to wmstsymposium2016@gmail.com with “IWS Symposium Abstract Submission” in the subject field, the author’s name, email address, the title of the paper/s, classification (undergraduate/graduate), major, institution, and a list of any audio-visual requirements.

2) A Word or PDF attachment that contains ONLY the title of the paper and an abstract of no more than 250 words, suitable for publication in the program.

Deadline for submissions: Friday, January 22, 2016.

Please distribute this notice widely, posting it in your department and forwarding it to any students/departments/institutions that might be interested in participating. All abstracts will be judged anonymously. Papers should be 15 minutes in length. A 5-minute question and answer period will follow each panel. For further information, contact wmstsymposium2016@gmail.com
