Dr. Juanita Johnson-Bailey, who holds the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship, is the Director of the Institute for Women’s Studies and a professor in the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration and Policy at The University of Georgia. Her book, Sistahs in College: Making a Way Out of No Way (Krieger Press, 2001), received the Phillip E. Frandson Award for Literature in Continuing Higher Education and the Sadie T. Mossell Alexander Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Black Women’s Studies. She is also the co-editor of Flat-Footed Truths: Telling Black Women’s Lives (Henry Holt, 1998), and the Handbook of Race in Adult Education (Jossey-Bass, 2010).

Dr. Cecilia Herles, the Assistant Director of the Institute for Women’s Studies, holds degrees in Philosophy and English from Clemson University. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy and graduate certificates in Women’s Studies and Environmental Ethics from the University of Georgia. She enjoys teaching her writing intensive class on Feminist Theories and her service-learning course on Environment, Gender, Race, Class. In the future, she hopes to develop a course on Asian Feminisms. Dr. Herles’ research examines feminist philosophies, environmental ethics and philosophies of race. Her work has been published in the International Journal of Sexuality and Gender Studies and Women’s Studies International Forum. She has presented numerous papers at conferences, here and abroad. Her current research focuses on natural disasters, global climate change, local food systems, and activism. She currently serves as the faculty advisor for WSSO, Campus Community Kitchen Project, and Triota.

Cicely Robinson-Jones is the Business Manager for the Institute for Women's Studies. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Brenau University in 2004. Prior to joining the Institute for Women's Studies, she worked in Human Resources at the University of Georgia. Ms. Robinson-Jones transferred to the Division of Biological Sciences in August 2010, but later returned to the Institute in January 2012.

Terri Hatfield is the Events and Administrative Coordinator for the Institute for Women's Studies. A University of Georgia alumna, Terri earned bachelor's degrees in both Psychology and Women's Studies. Prior to joining the staff of the Institute for Women's Studies in December 2009, she worked in the Office of Judicial Programs at the University of Georgia. When she's not planning fabulous Women's Studies events, Terri enjoys reading, knitting (but rarely finishing) scarves, and spending time with her two kitty-cats, Stella and Oscar (not pictured). |
